Power Output

The Jackery 1000 is designed to be a powerful and portable power station. It can support roughly 1000 watts of power through various ports and outlets to your gear.

This means that even for larger appliances, this power station can handle the demand.

As far as outputs, the Jackery 1000 can support:

  • 2 USB-C ports
  • 2 USB-A reasons ports
  • 1 DC car port
  • 3 pure sine wave AC outlets

Jackery also produces solar panels that pair with this Jackery 1000 allowing you to have constant power on full sun days unlike others that rely on a gas motor.

Charging

There are three ways to recharge the Jackery 1000. You can use either a car outlet, a wall outlet, or solar panels. This gives it the versatility you need to juice up when out camping or on a trip.

Depending on the method you use, the charging time changes. To get up to 80% battery, you must let the battery charge for:

  • Car outlet: 11.5 hours (about 14 hours to 100%)
  • Wall outlet: 5.5 hours (about 7 hours to 100%)
  • Solar panels: 6.5 hours (about 8 hours to 100%)

This may seem like a long time, but because of how much power it contains, you won’t be disappointed. Some examples to show you how long everything can last are:

jackery power station
  • Phones: 100 charges
  • Laptops: 8 charges
  • Grill: 50 minutes
  • Lights: 76 hours
  • Refrigerators (small): 66 hours

So, if you have sunny skies and some solar panels to charge the generator while you use it, it should be no problem to run the battery without the risk of running it out, no matter what you may need.

Pros

  • Long-lasting battery
  • Plug-in multiple devices
  • Pure sine wave inverter
  • Clean and quiet
  • Great customer service
  • 2-year warranty

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Heavy
  • Not water resistant

Pros

Power Output:

The Jackery 1000 has eight ports of different sizes and strengths that you can use to charge or power your appliances.

  • 2 USB-C can handle 18W of power at a time
  • 2 USBs can handle 12 to 18W of power at a time
  • 1 DC port can handle 120W at a time
  • The three AC ports can handle up to 1,000W continuously, or a surge of 2,000W

This means that you can use any appliance you may have and it can be charged from the Jackery 1000 without a problem. With as many outlets as there are, you can even plug in multiple appliances at once, as long as they don’t drain too much power.

Pure Sine Wave Inverter:

For those who don’t know, pure sine wave inverters are designed to take DC power and convert it to AC. DC power is common when working with cars or solar power. The inverter’s job is to take that power and change it over to use AC power.

man with a jackery power station

This is useful when camping, as a lot of products commonly use AC power. AC power is what we traditionally have in our homes. So things that can be plugged into an outlet at home will either need a converter or an inverter.

The inverter is safe with sensitive devices like computer chargers and TVs, so you don’t have to worry about harming any of your equipment.

Ports Options:

Jackery comes with a variety of ports to fit whatever you need. This makes it a great value. Whether you need a 12V DC charger or a 120V AC charger, or even just something that plugs into a USB port, the Jackery has you covered.

LCD Screen:

The LCD screen displays data that is easy to see and understand so that you know what’s going on with your power station at any given time, even if you don’t understand a lot of the technical jargon.

On the display screen, you can monitor all the different components including:

  • Input watts
  • Output watts
  • Battery percentage
  • Battery capacity

There is even a button that turns on and off the screen so you don’t waste power or have to deal with an annoying light at all hours of the day.

Clean and Quiet:

Since it can run on solar energy alone, this generator can be very clean. While this is important for the environment, it can also be nice for you while you are camping, so that you don’t have to smell gas all the time.

jackery solar power station beside a couple

It is also very quiet. It provides very little to no noise at all, depending on how much work it has to do at any given moment. When compared to a gas generator, where they are so loud your neighbors at a campsite can easily hear it, the slight whirring sound you get is much preferred.

Eco-Friendly:

Although the power pack can be charged on traditional power by being plugged into a car or wall outlet, it also has the ability to be eco-friendly by being charged by solar panels.

That, paired with the fact that it lasts a long time before it needs to be recharged, and before the battery needs to be replaced, you can be sure you have a quality, eco-friendly product.

Customer Service:

Jackery Explorer doesn’t cut corners with its customer service. They will help you with many different problems, whether it be replacements, troubleshooting, or general questions.

Warranty:

When you buy a Jackery 1000, you get a two-year warranty on your product. The warranty begins on the date of purchase. It also provides a free shipping and returns policy so that you can send the power station back easily if you decide you don’t want it anymore.

Cons

Charging Speed

Though it isn’t the fault of the Jackery 1000, it takes a long time to charge this power station with any power supply. A lot of people use power stations in the case of an emergency or natural disasters such as hurricanes.

jackery power station at the forest

However, your batteries needing anywhere between seven and 14 hours to charge can be a huge problem.

However, as we said, it isn’t the fault of the Jacker 1000. This is because it can only charge as fast as its charging station will allow. For example, most cars don’t power more than 80 watts at a time.

That charge time is what causes the charging performance to be slower.

Weight:

At 22 pounds, it is actually on the heavier end for other power stations of a similar size. However, with the combination of a sturdy handle, it is a little more understandable and still easy to carry.

Not Water Resistant:

This power station isn’t waterproof, or even water-resistant. Nor are the solar panels if you buy them from Jackery. This is incredibly disappointing because if you go on camping trips, you always risk the chance of encountering a little rain.

Also, pretty much any other solar panel you can find on the market is waterproof or water-resistant, so to have some that aren’t are a bit of a bummer.

How To Choose a Portable Solar Generator?

Power Capacity and Wattage

The first step is to determine what strength you want in your unit, as well as the battery life. Do you just want something to keep your phone and flashlight alive, or do you want to use it to keep anything in your home running in case you need emergency power?

jackery power station at home

Do you want it to be portable? Or are you going to keep it in one place?

Once you’ve answered these, that will tell you what capacity and wattage you may want. A battery bank for camping can handle a lot less power capacity and wattage than one that needs to power a whole house. It also weighs a lot less and keeps the price down.

Charging Options

Charging options also depend a lot on what you want to use your power pack for. Are you taking it deep into the outdoors and need the option of solar panels, or will AC and DC charging options be plenty?

Make sure you have enough charging options to suit your needs or you may find yourself stuck without a way to gain more power when you need it.

Durability

Obviously, you want a durable appliance. However, durability tends to come with a higher price tag. If you want a company known for its durability, you may have to be willing to spend a bit more.

Also, always look at the reviews. Just because a company claims its product is durable and fast, doesn’t mean it is by average standards. See what other people say about the product.

Cost

Of course, you want a powerhouse that has amazing efficiency, runs on sunlight, works with any device, can use any power source, and has a top-of-the-line brand logo on it.

jackery power station beside a car

What you might not want, however, is the cost that comes with it. When determining what product you may want, figure out your budget, and what features you are willing to lose in order to keep the cost down.

Warranty

Products always face testing a number of times. Their speeds, durability, power delivery, and output options are always put to the test, so companies know how their product will work after these tests.

Whether or not a company provides a warranty and what requirements and conditions these warranties have provides you with an idea of how confident the business is in their information and product.

Also, if something breaks due to reasons outside of your control, it is nice to know that the company has your back and will provide a tool or solution if you need it.

Cost vs. Other Options

There are other, more expensive options than the Jackery Explorer 1000. They may have a better LCD display, higher output power, better build quality, and could handle more items like microwaves, lamps, space heaters, desktop computers, and other gadgets.

However, what they will also have is a higher cost. And when we say they will be worth more money, we don’t mean $5. We mean a few hundred to a thousand dollars.

For the price the Jackery is at, it is a great product. It works for weekend camping trips, emergency backup power for small appliances during a power outage, and even in an RV. For 1000W, you won’t find yourself lacking the power to charge the most basic items you will need like a laptop.

It has a strong power rating for any of its different outlets and comes with various charging options so you never have to worry about bringing an adapter.  Our favorite part about this giant power brick, however, is its portability and solar charging capability.

FAQ

Is there a better alternative?

For the price, there aren’t really any better alternatives. You may be able to get gas generators for a different power source, as it has an advantage when it comes to flexibility with the possibility of bad weather, but that’s really the only instance.

Can You Use Jackery While Charging?

Yes, it is entirely possible to use the Jackery 1000 while it is charging, so long as the battery isn’t almost dead, and you aren’t using more than it is getting while charging. If this happens, you will find that eventually, your Jackery will die despite charging.

Is Jackery the Best?

Jackery isn’t necessarily the best. There are generators and electronic power banks that can handle more charge and can power even your coffee maker without any problems.

However, these other generators and their name brand are often more expensive and cover more than what you need for your next camping trip.

Can It Charge Different Devices at Once?

Yes, as long as you don’t go over the maximum power draw, you are able to charge multiple laptops, tablets, or cameras at once. You can even power your hair dryer while you let your camera charge.

While it may not be able to handle the wattage an air conditioner needs, you can be sure that your iPad, speakers, and anything else you need can be charged or powered all at once.
